Album Art

Album art (also called cover art) is the visual image associated with a music release — displayed on streaming platforms, smart links, and promotional materials to represent the recording.

Album Art

Definition

Album art is the primary visual identifier for a music release. On streaming platforms, it appears next to the track in playlists, search results, and on the artist profile. On smart links, it appears as the header image that fans see when they click through to choose their platform.

Streaming platforms require album art that meets specific technical standards: Spotify requires 3000x3000 pixels minimum, JPEG or PNG format, no third-party logos or URLs, and no explicit content in the artwork itself (that is handled separately with the explicit content tag). Most platforms share similar requirements.

Why it matters

Album art is the first visual impression of your music. On a crowded Spotify playlist, a compelling cover image is what makes a listener click play on an unfamiliar artist. Investing in quality album art pays returns every time your track appears in search, recommendations, or social shares.

How Lynkify uses this

When you create a Lynkify smart link from a Spotify or Apple Music URL, your album art is automatically imported and displayed on the release page. Artists can also upload custom artwork when creating smart links manually.

Frequently asked questions

What size should album art be for streaming platforms?
The standard minimum is 3000x3000 pixels at 300 DPI, JPEG or PNG format. Most platforms accept up to 10MB per image. Creating your artwork at this size ensures it appears sharp across all displays and future-proofs it for higher resolution screens.
