Double Opt-In
Double opt-in is an email subscription process that requires a new subscriber to confirm their email address by clicking a link in a confirmation email before being added to the fan list.
Definition
Single opt-in adds a subscriber to your list as soon as they submit their email. Double opt-in sends a confirmation email and only adds the subscriber after they click the confirmation link. This extra step filters out typos, fake addresses, and bots.
The trade-off: double opt-in reduces list growth speed by 15-30% (some fans do not confirm) but significantly improves list quality. The subscribers who do confirm are demonstrably more engaged and more likely to open future emails.
Why it matters
A smaller, verified fan list consistently outperforms a larger unverified list. High bounce rates and spam complaints from unverified addresses damage email deliverability over time, meaning fewer fans see your emails. Double opt-in protects your sender reputation and ensures your list is full of fans who genuinely want to hear from you.
How Lynkify uses this
Verified fan capture (double opt-in) is available on Lynkify Artist and Label plans. When enabled, new fans receive a confirmation email before being added to your Fan CRM. Verified contacts are marked separately so you can filter and export them with confidence.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I use single or double opt-in for my fan list?
- For long-term email marketing, double opt-in is recommended. The quality improvement in deliverability and engagement outweighs the reduction in raw signup numbers. If you are building a list for a one-time announcement, single opt-in may be sufficient.
