Fan CRM
A Fan CRM (Customer Relationship Management) is a database that stores information about an artist's fans — email addresses, locations, sources, and engagement history — that the artist owns and controls.
Definition
CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management. For music artists, a Fan CRM is the centralized record of everyone who has actively engaged with your work and given you their contact information. Unlike Spotify followers, Fan CRM contacts are data you own.
A well-maintained Fan CRM records: the fan's email address, where they came from (which smart link, bio page, or form), their geographic location, when they joined your list, and what content they engaged with. This lets you send targeted communications rather than blasting everyone the same message.
Fan CRMs typically connect to email marketing tools like Mailchimp, Klaviyo, or Kit. The CRM holds the data; the email tool sends the messages. Keeping both in sync means new fans automatically enter your campaign sequences.
Why it matters
Every artist who has seen an algorithm change, a platform shut down, or an account suspended understands why owning fan data matters. A Fan CRM is the insurance policy against platform dependency. When Songwhip shut down overnight, artists with email lists could still reach their fans. Artists without them could not.
How Lynkify uses this
Lynkify Fan CRM aggregates contacts from every surface — smart links, bio pages, forms, live experience pages, and podcast hubs. Each contact record shows source, location, and join date. Artists export CSV or sync directly to Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Kit, and Brevo on paid plans.
Frequently asked questions
- What information does a Fan CRM capture?
- A Fan CRM typically captures: email address, first name, geographic location (country and city), the source that brought them in (which link or page), the date they joined, and verification status (whether they confirmed their email).
- Is a Fan CRM the same as an email list?
- A Fan CRM is the database that contains your fan data. An email list is what you send campaigns to. Most artists use a CRM to store contacts and an email service provider (Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Kit) to send emails. Lynkify connects both.
