Retargeting

Retargeting (also called remarketing) is an advertising technique that shows ads specifically to people who have previously visited your smart link or bio page but did not take a desired action like following you or joining your email list.

Retargeting

Definition

Retargeting works through tracking pixels — small code snippets placed on your smart link or bio page that record visitor data. When a fan visits your smart link without signing up, Meta Pixel or Google Tag can later show that person targeted ads on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube.

Retargeting is more cost-effective than cold advertising because you are reaching people who already showed interest. A fan who clicked your smart link and listened to 30 seconds of a song is far more likely to respond to a targeted ad than someone who has never heard of you.

Why it matters

Most people who visit your smart link do not take action on the first visit. Retargeting keeps your music in front of warm leads — people who already know who you are — at a fraction of the cost of reaching cold audiences. This is particularly effective in the weeks around a release.

How Lynkify uses this

Lynkify Artist and Label plans include pixel integration for Meta Pixel, Google Tag Manager, TikTok Pixel, and Snapchat Pixel. Add your pixel ID to your workspace and every smart link and bio page visitor becomes eligible for retargeting without any additional code.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a big budget to retarget?
Retargeting audiences are often small (only visitors to your pages), so even small budgets ($5-20 per day) can reach a meaningful percentage of your warm audience. For independent artists, retargeting works best with a minimum audience of 500-1,000 pixel events.
